The body accepts the implant like its own tissue and allergic reactions are not known. During an individually determined healing period the bone firmly grows together with the implant. It forms a stable foundation for the new teeth. The technical term for the connection between implant and bone is called osseointegration. After the healing period the new teeth – crowns, bridges or whole tooth rows – will be fixed on the implant. The implant takes over the job of the natural roots. Similar to the roots the implants constantly transfer the forces originating from mastication into the jawbone. The bone is strained in a healthy way and remains vital.
With good oral hygiene and regular control, implants can last a lifetime.
